Cell signalling Flashcards
1
Q
What is the purpose of cell signalling?
A
Cells can communicate with each other. Cell signalling uses messenger molecules
2
Q
What is the process of cell signalling?
A
- Cell releases messenger molecule
- Messenger molecule travels to another cell
- Messenger molecule detected by cell + binds to receptor on cell surface membrane
- Binding triggers change in cell
3
Q
What is a target cell?
A
Cell that responds to messenger molecule
4
Q
What acts as receptors in cell?
A
Proteins - Receptor proteins, called ‘Membrane-bound receptors’
They have a specific/complimentary shape
