CELL SECRETIONS IN STOMACH Flashcards
MUCOUS CELLS
-secrete mucous
PARIETAL CELLS
-SECRETE HYDROCHLORIC ACID (stimulated by G-cells) AND GHRELIN
-these cells have mircovilli
-helps make stomach acid, an ideal enviroment for protein-digesting enzyme pepsin
CHIEF CELLS
-produce pepsinogen
-lipases
ENTEROENDOCRINE CELLS
-secrete hormones and paracrine messengers to regulate digestion
-ex. histamine, serotonin, gastrin
G-CELLS
-secrete gastrin and found in pyloric glands
-stimulate parietal cells to secrete HCl
HCL
-gastric juice
-stomach acid
ZYMOGEN
-inactive protein converted into active form through removal of amino acid
-ex. is pepsinogen-pepsin (important so that pepsin is not always present otherwise it will digest itself.)
PEPSINOGEN
-the zymogen when in contact with HCl converts to PEPSIN (digests proteins)
INTRINSIC FACTOR
-glycoprotein essential in absorbing vitamin B12 - needed to make EMF
-a decrease in EMF leads to pernicious amenia
