Cell Respiration & Photosynthesis Flashcards
Glycolysis
In Cytoplasm
Anaerobic
Glucose is converted into 2 pyruvates
Net yield- 2 Pyruvate NADH and ATP
Kreb Cycle
Pyruvate is transported into the mitochondrial matrix- aerobic
Carbon is released
Net yield- 2atp, 6nadh 2 fadh
ETC
Inner Mitochondrial Membrane
Aerobic
Electrons are transferred from the NADH and FADH to protein complexes
in electron carriers
Electrons generate proton gradients
Protons pumped into inner membrane space
Protons go through the synetheis- atp
Pigment
Light capturing molecule
Two processes that make photosynthesis
Light dependent and independent-calvin cycle- reactions
Light dependent
Thylakoids- compartments in the chloroplast that contain pigments
Light is captured and water is split
Produce- oxygen atp and nadph
Light independent (calvin cycle)
Chloroplast- stroma
Carbon enters
it is taken in through pores- on bottom of leaves- stomata
co2 gas enters stomata
It is fixed- changed to a more usable form
Atp- energy currency
NADPH- supply reducing power- helps add high energy electrons to the process
Glucose
Fixed co2- ATP- NADPH
