Cell Respiration Flashcards
1
Q
Cellular Respiration
A
The process of breaking down organic compounds (glucose in this situation)
to generate energy in the form of ATP and releasing carbon dioxide and water
2
Q
Mitrocondria
A
- Inside the cytoplasm of eukaryotic cells
- AKA the Powerhouse of the cell since it produces the most energy in the form of ATP; also it’s primary function
Other functions the Mitochondria are INVOLVED with
- Signaling
- Differentiating cells
- Controlling cell cycle
- Cell growth
- Cell death
3
Q
Pyruvate to Succinyl CoA
A
- Pyruvate becomes Acetyl CoA
- Acetyl CoA combines with Oxaloacetate to become Citric Acid
- Citric Acid becomes Isocitric Acid and becomes a-Ketoglutaric acid
- a-Ketoglutaric acid becomes Succinyl CoA
4
Q
Electron transport chain
A
- A series of electron carriers that ends with creating H2O and and converting ADP back to ATP
