Cell Proliferation + death Flashcards
Neoplasia
Tumour
Mutagenesis
Oncogenesis
Neoplasia = abnormal proliferation of cells
Tumour = swelling due to abnormal growth of tissue
Mutagensis = production of genetic mutations
Oncogenesis = development of a tumour
Types of neoplasia + histology
Carcinomas - epithelial - disordered sheets or nests
Sarcomas - connective tissue - haphazard spindle-like cells
Lymphomas - lymphoid - diffuse pattern
Leukemia - blood producing cells - abnormal cells in bone marrow
Neuroblastomas - SNS - small, round cells in nests
Necrosis definition and function
= accidental cell death
Pathological
Cell swelling
lysosomal cells leak
causes: injury, infection, cancer etc.
causes an immune response
Apoptosis
= programmed cell death
physiological + regulated
cell shrinking
deletion of infected or transformed cells etc
apoptotic bodies formed
