Cell Organelles & Cell Transport Flashcards
A double layer that protects and supports the cell allows materials in and out.
CELL MEMBRANE
(plant cells only)
Contains digestive enzymes that destroy damaged organelles and invaders.
LYSOSOME
(both plant & animal cells)
Jelly-like fluid that surrounds and protects the organelles
CYTOPLASM
(both plant & animal cells)
The control center of the cell that contains the DNA (genetic code)
NUCLEUS
(both plant & animal cells)
Surrounds the nucleus
NUCLEUS MEMBRANE
(both plant & animal cells)
Stores food and water
VACUOLE
(both plant & animal cells)
Processes and packages materials for the cell
GOLGI BODY
(both plant & animal cells)
The “Powerhouse.” Breaks down food to produce energy in the form of ATP.
MITOCHONDRIA
(both plant & animal cells)
Builds and transports substances through the cell. Has ribosomes on it.
ROUGH E.R.
(both plant & animal cells)
Builds and transports substances through the cell. Does not have ribosomes on it.
SMOOTH E.R.
(both plant & animal cells)
Helps make protein for the cell.
RIBOSOME
(both plant & animal cells)
The rigid outerlayer that gives shape and protection to plant cells
CELL WALL
(plant cells only)
Changes sunlight into sugar (food) for plant cells.
CHLOROPLAST
(plant cells only)
Tiny strands inside the nucleus that contain the instructions for a person’s genetic code.
DNA
(both plant & animal cells)
The part of a cell that controls what comes in and out of the cell. It is said to be selectively permeable.
