CELL ORGANELLES Flashcards
What is Cell Organelles?
structure that has one or more specific jobs to perform in the cell
what is the difference between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells?
Prokaryotic - no nucleus no organelles unicellular
Eukaryotic- Has nucleus , has organelles, multicellular
they both have DNA, ribosomes, cytoplasm and cell membrane
what are the three domains of life?
Eukaryota, Bacteria, Archea
what are the example of prokaryotic cells
Bacteria and Archea
It controls the entry and the exit of certain substances
Cell Membrane/Plasma Membrane
helps to keep stability of the cell. It is the site where many vital biochemical reactions take place.
Cytoplasm
controls all of the cells activities. Itcontains the cell’s genetic material.
Nucleus
a bilayer membrane which protects the nucleus by surrounding and acts as a barrier between the cell nucleus and other organelles of the cell.
Nuclear Membrane
inside the nucleus. It plays a vital role in the production of the cell’s ribosome.
Nucleolus
made up of a number of flattened sacs called cisternae
Endoplasmic Reticulum
protein synthesis
RER
lipid synthesis
SER
a stack of membrane-bound flattened sacs and are responsible for the modification of proteins.
Golgi apparatus
define Mitochondria
are round double membrane-bound organelles responsible for aerobic respiration. Their inner membrane is folded inside to form cristae.
It is made up of DNA and stored in the nucleus, which contains the instructions for traits and characteristics.
Chromosomes
