Q

what happens in prophase? 3

A
  • the chromosomes condense and become inactive
  • centrioles move in pairs to opposite sides of the cell
  • nucleus breaks down

Q

what happens in metaphase? 2

A
  • spindle fibres attach to the centromere of each chromosome
  • chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell

Q

what happens in anaphase? 2

A
  • centromeres divide = separating pairs of sister chromatids
  • spindle fibres contract = pull the chromatids to opposite sides of the cell = cell elongates

Q

what happens in telophase?

  • cytokinesis occurs = cytoplasm divides = 2 genetically identical daughter cells
  • chromatids form chromosomes
