Cell division Flashcards
1
Q
Interphase
A
G1: Centrioles begin replicating.
S: DNA is replicated
G2: Final prep. for mitosis is completed, and centrioles finish replicating.
2
Q
Early prophase
A
- Chromatin condenses, forming barlike chromosomes.
- Two sister chromatids are held together at the centromere.
- Nucleolus dissolves
3
Q
Late prophase
A
- Nuclear membrane dissolves
- Mitotic spindle forms
- Kinetochore attaches to centromere
4
Q
Metaphase
A
- Mitotic spindle pulls
- Pulls from each end
- Still attached at the kinetochore
- Forms the metaphase plate; midline
5
Q
Anaphase
A
- Mitotic spindle continues the pull
- Centromeres split
- Chromatids become daughter chromosomes
6
Q
Telophase
A
Prophase in reverse (New nuclear envelope & nucleolus)
- Mitotic spindle dissolves
- Has 2 new nuclei
7
Q
Cytokinesis
A
- Contractile ring of actin microfilaments forms the cleavage furrow and pinches the cell apart.
