Cell Division Flashcards
CELL DIVISION
Each species will have a constant number of chromosomes which make up the genetic constitution of a living thing
The number will be even the majority of the time
The number of full set is called diploid number
MITOSIS
2n———2n&2n = equational division
Equational division takes part within the whole organism apart from reproductive area (vegetable cell)
MEIOSIS
2n———1n&1n = reductional division
Reproductive division
Equal distribution of split chromosome pairs in each daughter cell
Cells neede to be halved because cells are reproductive, if cells are not halved there will be two sets of chromosomes
Changes
HAPLOID, DIPLOID PHASES
Bryo (n) dominant phase
Pterido Gymno Angio (2n) dominant phase
