Cell Cycle Phases Flashcards
1
Q
Mitosis vs. Meiosis
A
mitosis results in diploid daughter cells, while meiosis results in haploid cells to produce gametes
2
Q
Meiosis I vs. Meiosis II
A
Meiosis I results in 2 haploid cells, each with 23 chromosomes consisting of 2 sister chromatids per chromosome. In the male, the sister chromatids are split into 4 gametes during meiosis II. For females, meiosis I results in a secondary oocyte (a gamete) and a polar body. Penetration of the secondary oocyte by a sperm brings on anaphase II. Telophase II produces a zygote and a second polar body.
