Cell cycle Flashcards
Interphase
90% of the cells life is spent in Interphase, where it grows, increases in size and organelles DNA of the cell is duplicated
What does Mitosis allow for?
Growth, Repair and replacement
What are the stages of Mitosis?
Interphase, Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase and Telophase
Prophase (Mitosis)
Chromosomes are condensing
Metaphase (Mitosis)
Chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell, the nucleus has been broken apart
Anaphase (Mitosis)
Chromosomes move to opposite sides of the cell (Spindle fibers help move the chromosomes)
Telophase (Mitosis)
Chromosomes are at complete opposite ends, nuclei are starting to form and surround the chromosomes.
Cytokinesis
Splits cytoplasm
Meiosis
Makes sperm and egg cells (Gametes, only 23 chromosomes each) Interphase happens here as well.
Meiosis allows for…
Growth, DNA replication
Prophase 1
chromosomes line up with their homologous pairs, crossing over.
Metaphase 1
Chromosomes in the middle of the cell (pairs)
Anaphase 1
chromosomes pulled away by spindle fibers
Telophase 1
two newly formed nuclei, end meiosis one with 2 new cells.
Prophase 11
Spindles begin to form
