Cell Cycle Flashcards
What protein sticks chromatids together in G2
Cohesin- go round the two chromatids and stick them together
Which protein drives condensing in early prophase
Condensins- phosphate groups stuck to them activate them which causes them to condense DNA
What are lamins
Proteins which are phosphorylated which triggers the breakdown of the nuclear envelope during late prophase
What does seperase do in metaphase
Esperase cleaves the cohesions, triggering the start of anaphase
What happens to lamins in telophase
Lamins are not phosphorylated so nuclear envelope reforms
Define a synaptonemal complex
Homologous chromosomes held together and in perfect alignment by a protein lattice.
Define chiasmata
Cross overs between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes
