Cell Cycle Flashcards
Name all the Nitrogenous bases in DNA
Thymine, Adenine, Cytosine, Guanine
What does DNA is anti-parallel mean?
It means the DNA strands do not face the same way/ move in different directions
What does DNA stand for?
Deoxyribonucleic Acid
What does DNA replication is semi-conservative mean?
It means DNA makes a new strand and keeps an old one
What does helicase do?
It is an enzyme that unzips the DNA strands
What stage is the cell In for the longest?
Interphase
what is G1 phase?
Cell growth
What is S phase?
DNA replication
What is G2 phase?
Growth/ preparing for mitosis
What are the mitosis phases in order?
PMAT= Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase, Telophase
What is mitosis and why is it important?
Mitosis is the growth of a cell that splits into two, important for human growth
What does prophase do
DNA condenses to Chromosomes and the nucleus disappears
What does Metaphase do?
The chromosomes line up in the middle of the cell
What does Anaphase do?
The sister chromatids split apart
What does Telophase do?
The cell splits into two cells
