cell cycle Flashcards
Gap 1/G1
first stage of interphase, cell makes organelles
Synthesis/S
second stage of interphase where DNA is replicated
Gap 2/G2
last stage of interphase, when the cell makes organelles needed for cell division
Mitosis
the division of cells
prophase
the first stage of mitosis where the nucleus disappears and the chromosomes condense
metaphase
the second stage of mitosis where where the chromosomes line up in the middle and connects to the spindle
anaphase
third phase of mitosis where the chromosomes start going to opposite sides of the cells
telophase
last stage of mitosis where the cells are on opposite sides of the cell
cytokinesis
when one cell divides into two
cell division
the process where cells produce other cells
G1 Border Control
mid/end of G1, checks of DNA is damaged
G2 Border Control
end of G2(close to mitosis), checks if DNA was correctly replicated and that all the right organelles are there
Mitosis Border Control
passes through metaphase, makes sure all the chromosomes are correctly lined up in the middle and attached to the spindle
positive regulators (Cdk-Cyclin)
let’s the cell move on if all the right chemicals are there
negative regulators (P53 + K-ras)
stops any cells with mistakes
