Cell Biology and General Pathology Concepts Flashcards
What are cell membranes mainly composed of?
Phospholipids and proteins.
Can lipid-soluble substances cross membranes?
Yes, they can cross cell membranes because they can dissolve.
Ex: Ox, CO2, steroid hormones.
Where does diffusion usually go/behave?
It goes from higher concentration to lower concentration.
What goes into the cell with glucose?
Sodium.
Difference between regeneration and fibrosis
Regeneration - renewal of lost tissue or part in which the lost cells are replaced by identical ones.
Fibrosis - Healing by connective tissue replacement (scar).
Difference between grade and stage
Grade - how much it has changed from its parent tissue. How anaplastic it is.
Stage - the extent of spread within the patient and size of original tumor.
