Cell Biology And Body Chemistry Flashcards
Organelles
Components that make up cells.
Homeostasis
Controlling the internal conditions to create an equilibrium.
DNA
Deoxyribonucleic acid tells the cell how to function.
RNA
Ribonucleic acid.
Phospholipid bilayer
A double layer of phospholipid molecules with embedded protein molecules.
Selectively permeable
Allows certain substances in and out.
Passive diffusion
Where a substance attaches to a carrier protein to help it cross the membrane.
ATP
Adenosine triphosphate.
Lysozymes
Digestive enzymes.
MRNA
Used in protein synthesis.
Chromosomes
Thread like structure of the nucleic acids and protein found in the nucleus, carrying genetic information in the form of genes.
Chromatid
Each of the 2 thread like strands into which a chromosome divides during cell division.
Centromere
The point on a chromosome by which it’s attached.
Diploid number
2 sets of chromosomes.
Haploid number
Singe set of unpaired chromosomes.
