Cell Biology 2 Flashcards
What are the advantages and disadvantages of a light microscope
Advantages -
-not expensive
-Relatively small
-The original colour of the specimen can be viewed
-not much experience is needed to set it up
Disadvantages -
-don’t magnify as far as an electron microscope
-has lower resolution
-cannot operate in darkness
What advantages and disadvantages of electron microscope
Advantages-
-has a greater magnification
-has a greater resolution
-can operate in the dark
Disadvantages-
-very expensive
-very big
-needs maintenance
-needs experience to use
Say what you know about specialised cells
- Specialised cells make tissue which makes up organs and organ systems which make up our body
- nerve cells, reproductive cells and blood cells are specialised cells
- they have structures that are adapted for the function
What is a stem cell
Stem cells are special cells produced by bone marrow and is a cell that is not yet specialised
What are the three transportations in cells and what are they
Diffusion - diffusion is the movement of particles from an area of high concentration to an area of low concentration
osmosis - osmosis is the movement of water molecules from a solution of a high concentration of water molecules to a solution of low concentration of water molecules
active transport - Active transport is the movement of dissolved molecules into or out of a cell through the cell membrane, from a region of lower concentration to a region of higher concentration
