Cell basics- animal cells Flashcards
This deck covers the basic knowledge needed for cells, for unit 1
What does a nucleus consist? (4 things)
Nuclear envelope, nuclear pores, chromatine, nucleolus
What is the function of the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum ?
Responsible for the assembly of many proteins. This process is called translation.
what is the function of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum?
To make cellular products like hormones, carbohydrates and lipids.
What is the function of the Golgi Apparatus ?
Modifying, sorting and packaging proteins, transporting lipids.
Function of Lysosomes?
Digest excess or worn out organelles, food particle, and engulfed viruses & bacteria
Function of Ribosomes?
Makes proteins, has two sub units, made in nucleolus
Function of cytoplasm?
Helps cell maintain shapes, where chemical reactions take place
Function of centrioles?
Help with cell division in animal cells- separate chromosomes during mitosis.
Function of cell membrane?
Maintains shape, controls what enters and exists cell- vica versa
Function of the mitochondria?
Performs cell respiration
Define eukaryotic cell
A complex cell, with membrane bound cells and a nucleus.
