Cell Flashcards
What is in an animal cell?
Nucleus, vacuole, cytoplasm, cell membrane.
What are animal cells like?
Animal cells are bit like a balloon filled with water or jelly.
What is the nucleus?
The nucleus in the control centre of the cell. It dictates what the cell does, e.g producing chemicals, reproduction and how the cell develops.
What is the vacuole?
There may be several in one cell. They contain the chemicals being moved around the cell.
What is the Cytoplasm?
A watery, jelly-like mixture that contains many smaller parts.
What is the cell membrane?
The ‘skin’ that holds the cell together.
What are organelles?
Mitochondria
Ribosomes
Lysosomes
Endoplasmic Reticulum
What are the Mitochondria?
They are the powerhouse of the cell which releases the energy from food.
What are Ribosomes?
They are microscopic factories that produce the proteins used by the body for growth and repair.
What are Lysosomes?
The garbage disposal units.
What is the Endoplasmic Reticulm?
They form pathways that allow materials to move quickly around the cell.
What is the difference between an animal cell and a plant cell?
An animal cell has a cell membrane where as a plant cell has a cell wall.
Animal cells have small vacuoles and plant cells have a large vacuole.
Plant cells have chloroplast.
What is a plant cell like?
A plant cell is like a brick that build up as the plant grows.
What is in a plant cell.
Cell wall
Vacuole
Chloroplast
What is the cell wall?
Plants don’t have a skeleton so their cells are equipped with cell walls.
