McCutcheon 2006: 299 students, parental bonding scale and celebrity stalking (rate appropriate behaviour), insecurely attached more likely to think celebrity stalking ore acceptable
What methodological comments can be made about McCutcheon’s research?
parental relationship recall may be incorrect, only students so not generalisable, only correlational, should differentiate between A and C
Who conducted research into celebrity stalking and avoidance and anxiety?
Roberts 2007: 200 students reported actual contact attempts made to celebs and tendencies for attachment related avoidance and anxiety, + correlation between anxiety and celeb approaches, neg correlation between avoidance and frequency of celeb approach
What methodological comments can be made about Robert’s research?
not generalisable, might withhold info due to embarrassment but actual stalking behaviour: higher eco validity
What has other research into stalking shown?
stalking after relationship breakdown shows that stalkers more likely to have preoccupied (adult C) attachment
