Q

How are particles in a liquid arranged ?

A

Tightly packed together but with small gaps to allow small amount of movement, no order to the particles

Q

How do particles move in a solid ?

A

They can vibrate and as they are tightly packed together the vibrations are carried throughout the whole thing

Q

How do particles in a liquid move ?

A

They can move around each other in the small gaps however they are all constantly touching each other

Q

What properties do solids have an why ?

A

Solids have a fixed shape and therefore can’t flow, this is because they are very tightly bonded
Solids cannot be compressed or squashed as they are so tightly packed that there is no space to move into

Q

What properties do liquids have and why ?

A

Liquids can flow and take the shape of their container, this happens as there particles can move around each other
Liquids can not be compressed or squashed as they are very tightly packed together

Q

What properties do gases have and why ?

A

Gases flow and completely fill there container because there particles can move in all directions
Gases can be compressed as there particles are far apart and have lots of space to move into

16
Q

Why does melting and evaporating need heat ?

A

As a solid has less energy than liquid, and liquid has less energy than a gas it needs more beefy to turn into a state with more energy

17
Q

When can solids turn straight into a gas ?

A

When solids turn into gases it’s called sublimation fit example dry ice which is co2

18
Q

How can a gas turn into a liquid without using condensation ?

A

When gas is kept at a very high pressure this is because the particles are compacted so much that bonds are made between them

19
Q

What happens when a something changes state ?

A

The particles vibrate and the force of attraction is overcome

20
Q

What happens do he melting/boiling points if the substance is a pure substance ?

A

It increases
