Q

What causes genetic variation?

A

Mutations- the change in genes (DNA sequence)or chromosomes

Gene recombination- the mixing of genes that result from meiosis and sexual reproduction.

Q

How does adaptations allow organisms to survive?

A

Adaptations help organisms to survive because to adapt means to change the way you live in order to survive to the conditions in the environment.

Q

How does Natural Selection allow some members of a species to survive better than others when conditions change?

A

Natural Selection helps some members of species to survive better than others due to the change in characteristic they have which helps them to live.
For example if there were only food in high trees and there

Q

How can natural selection lead to an evolution of new species?

A

natural selection can lead to an evolution of new species as all of the organisms that dont have the characteristic that better adapts them to the environment dies so all the organisms with the characteristic survive and produce offspring with the same characteristic.

Q

How does the developments of resistance in organisms prove Darwin’s theory?

A

Microorganisms such as bacteria and viruses reproduce rapidly and can evolve in a relatively short time. One example is the bacterium E. coli. Its DNA can be damaged or changed during replication, and most of the time this causes the death of the cell. But occasionally the mutation is beneficial (to the bacteria). For example, it may allow resistance to certain antibiotics. When those antibiotics are present, the resistant bacteria have an advantage over the bacteria that are not resistant.

This supports Darwin’s theory as it shows how the difference in Genes can create different species.

Q

what is Darwin’s theory?

A

Darwin’s theory is a theory of biological evolution, stating that all species of organisms arise and develop through the natural selection of small, inherited variations that increase the individual’s ability to compete, survive, and reproduce.
