- Quasi experiment, sweden, participants either in high/low skilled group
- 24 swedish saw mill workers - 14 high skilled (finishers) they were machine paced, repetitive, high skilled and there productivity determined others wages - 10 low risk cleaners whos work was varied, self paced and allowed to socialise

- Stress related hormones adrenaline and noradrenaline meausred in urine on work and rest days. records of stress related illness plus absenteeism kept. self reports about mood, alertness, caffeine, nicotine consumption recorded.
- High risk group had higher levels of stress hormones on work than rest days and than control group. High also had higher levels of stress related illness and absenteeism
- A combo of work stressors lead to chronic physiological arousal leading to stress related illness and absenteeism
