  • Hypoxia (oxygen deficiency)
  • Chemical agents (eg. poisons, tobacco, alcohol)
  • Infectious Agents (bacteria, virus, fungi, parasites)
  • Genetic defects ( congenital malformations/ single base mutations causing functional deficiency or protein mis-folding).
  • Nutritional Imbalance (deficiency/excess)
  • Physical agents (mechanical trauma, thermal injury)
