What are the common examination findings?
A
Loss of red reflex
Grey/yellow opacity in lens
Reduced visual acuity and central visual loss

What are the investigations?
A
To finish the exam i would like to - Perfrom a full cranial nerve and ENT exam.
By the bed - History, obs
Bloods - Pre op surgical bloods
Other - Slit lamp examination

What are the key investigation findings?
A
Cloudy lens

What is the treatment?
A
Conservative - Explain what it is and to have regular eye examinations and prescription changes to maintain vision
Surgical - Cataract repair if it affects life to a serious degree

What are the risk factors?
A
- Nucleur sclerosis - age related clouding of the lens
- Trauma
- UV
- Diabetes
- Streroids
