A

He built them as soon as he won at Hastings.
Enabled him to secure control of an area.
He built them in his borderlines and also on the coast- with the intention of repelling invaders.

A

A

If there was a rebellion the castle could be used as the base. If rebels wanted to control the area they’d have to capture the castle and this would be difficult
