Cases in abattoir Flashcards
Cow - one official tag, one un official
Need official tag.
either 2 official primary tags (2 big yellow or 1 big yellow and smaller yellow)
or metal tag as secondary tag
Not official tag doesn’t replace official
Could have
Horse broken leg
- SHOULD NEVER have been transported
- Fault of both transporter and farmer
- need to work out did this occur during transport or before
- Exposed fracture - systemic disease, could this be public health concern?
- If there is no evidence that this impacted the animal’s health in any other way can still be slaughtered and processed but MUST ensure not systemic
- in PM would need to assess the age for court case
Cow presents with a huge oral tumour
growth disturbance but not necessarily neoplasm
If it was neoplasm the whole carcass would have been rejected
Didn’t happen over night- doubt animal eating properly so complete disregard to the animal’s welfare. ☹
Enforcement would follow this.
Reject locally tissues but could process rest if not metastatic.
cow on floor at farm with broken leg and wound
Potential for contamination due to mucky floor and open wound.
Cannot be sent to abattoir as it cannot be transported like this- vet would have to come for emergency slaughter
Faecal contamination of organ
CANNOT wash. Organ = whole thing rejected, carcass – trim contamination
Animal with suspected growth promotors
likely detain antemortem
Serve notice (needs date served) or kill animal and detain meat after - suspected use of growth promotors
Detaining meat can test it
If owner not wants to detain meat until testing can occur
21 day limit to the food safety act
