Arguments for giving aid (in 2010 received 421million pound - India is the biggest recepient of British aid)

- corruption in India (70million pounds/ 388 million pounds) only 15% reached the poor
- deep spending cuts at home (Britain)
- Indian government think that the UK gave “negative publicity of Indian poverty”
- run in interests of officials
- criticises as an industry “a self-serving lobby of Westerners”
- India is rich (gave 3.5 billion to Africa) and is growing quicker than GB (spent 2 billion on space program)

A
- target to give 0.7% of national income to aod
- embarrassing to pull out
- try to have favorable trade deals with Indian (but failed - lost deal of selling jet fighters to France)
