  • corruption in India (70million pounds/ 388 million pounds) only 15% reached the poor
  • deep spending cuts at home (Britain)
  • Indian government think that the UK gave “negative publicity of Indian poverty”
  • run in interests of officials
  • criticises as an industry “a self-serving lobby of Westerners”
  • India is rich (gave 3.5 billion to Africa) and is growing quicker than GB (spent 2 billion on space program)

A
  • target to give 0.7% of national income to aod
  • embarrassing to pull out
  • try to have favorable trade deals with Indian (but failed - lost deal of selling jet fighters to France)
