CASE STUDY- ski tourism in the alps Flashcards
skiers and building of pistes have removed habitats as well as natural protection against avalanches whilst degrading the natural landscape
therefore animals die due to loss of habitats whilst avalanches damage vegetation. it is £ to create man-made defences against avalanches
construction of development has lead to forest clearance and new resort construction has lead to blasting and bulldozing the slopes
increased risk of avalanches, damaged fragile vegetation
use of snow cannons take huge amounts of water from land that is already limited. also harms plant/soils due to drainage and concerns about chemicals produced
but without the use of snow cannons there would be economic disasters, there is less water available for drinking and drainage, vegetation takes a long time to recover and we don’t know lasting impacts it will cause
