- The USA,UN and civil society are effectively implementing new food security programmes.
- The Dominican Republic- central American free trade agreement small farmers are being helped to increase trade
- USAID is working in local areas to help realise their potential and decrease poverty.
Opportunities created for socio-economic development
- 40% of the population is under 15: the Honduras ministry of education has reformed its policies by decentralising to local authorities to meet SDGs.
- Efforts have been made to support maternal and child health.
- The Mission to support and fight against corruption and impunity on Honduras has been active since April 2016. It has assisted in the creation of anti-corruption jurisdiction and the approval of a law on Clean politics.
Challenges of inequality
- Inequalities between rich and poor are evident in urban areas such as the industrial centre of San Pedro. Rural-urban migration has lead to a shortage of housing.
- In both urban and rural areas, there remains unequal access to healthcare and there is discrimination against those who are HIV positive.
