- SEZs eg Shantou to encourage investment and economic growth by attracting foreign TNCs
-Keep the yuan low/weak relative to other currency’s to encourage countries to buy their cheap produce.
What are the positive effects of globalisation in China?
- Increased job opportunity’s + less unemployment
- Increased investment
- Better quality of life for some
What are the negative effects of globalisation in China?
-70% of their lakes are polluted=water shortages
-Terrestrial vertebrates population has decreased by 50%
- High primary employment=bad working conditions, low wages=limited economic growth
How has Chinas diet changed as a result of globalisation?
Higher exposure to westernised culture=More fast food=TNC exploitation+ obesity, higher meat consumption. Meat consumption increased, 72kg/capita, doubled in last 30years.Bad for environment, either import meat or clear land to make met themselves.
