Why do people want to visit the Pennine Way?
A
- The Pennine Way became the first National Trail in 1965
- trail links the peak district with Hadrian’s wall
- it is said to be one of the best walking experiences in the UK. Along the trail you can see: malham cove, hi force and hike up Nick, some of the best landscape in the UK.
- there are lots of hotels, B&Bs, pubs, campsites and hostels along the route

How come the area be managed sustainably?
A
Restoration projects aimed to:
• Restore soil and vegetation
• provide long-lasting footpaths
• use materials which blend in with the natural environment
• improve the signage
• educate people about how valuable the area is
• educate people about not leaving rubbish and taking the rubbish home with them

Problems on the Pennine Way
A
- widespread erosion caused by: fires destroying the vegetation
- overgrazing by sheep which prevents new vegetation growing
- people walking and cycling on the footpath. Thousands of walkers cross the Mooreland every year.
- when the Petes on the more is expose it is easily turned up by feet and is washed away by the rain.
- walker’s avoid muddy footpath’s pass by walking on the side of the park. This causes the area of erosion to be increased
- some parts are not well designed so walkers leave the footpath and create new ones.
- organise events such as sponsored walks, fun runs add to the pressure
