Case Reviews (Week 5--Metten and Pham) Flashcards
Do dorsal or ventral rami contribute to nerve plexuses?
Only ventral rami contribute to nerve plexuses (sacral, lumbar, cervical, brachial)
Both innervate segmental pattern
If you have a distal humerus fracture, will your triceps be impaired?
No because branches from the radial nerve to innervate the triceps have already branched off
Radial tunnel syndrome vs. radial nerve compression in the mid-arm
No damage to extensor carpi radialis longus in radial tunnel syndrome because no damage to radial nerve until past where branch to extensor carpi radialis longus is
Radial tunnel syndrome = posterior interosseus nerve syndrome
In primary vs. secondary bone healing, which stage is different?
Second stage, reparative stage is different (primary healing is just periosteum –> osteoblasts –> bony collar but secondary healing is hematoma –> granulation tissue –> soft callus (cartilage) –> bone callus)
First and third stages (inflammation and remodeling) are same
