Miranda v. Arizona
A defendant in police custody must be informed of the right to consult with an attorney before and during questioning and of the right against self-incrimination before police questioning.
Tennessee v. Garner
A police officer may use deadly force to prevent the escape of a fleeing suspect if the officer has a good faith belief that the suspect poses a significant risk of death or injury to an officer or others.
Wyoming v. Houghton
An officer who has probable cause for search, may do so. Such searches are especially warranted if aim is looking into objects or personal belongings capable of concealing items that are the object of the search. Includes plain-view.
Scott v. Harris
An officer’s attempt to terminate a dangerous high-speed car chase that threatens the lives of innocent bystanders does not violate the Fourth Amendment, even when it places the fleeing motorist at risk of serious injury or death.
Maryland v. King
If a defendant was caught on a violent scene a DNA sample would be collected.
Castle v. San Andreas
A person may use deadly force to protect oneself from injury or death if it is (1) in response to an unprovoked attack which (2) threatens imminent injury or death. The response must use (3) an objectively reasonable degree of force and (4) the defendant must report the defensive act to law enforcement as soon as it is safe to do so.
Doegood v. San Andreas
A person who renders emergency assistance to an individual may not be sued for their actions unless those actions are negligent.
Rags v. San Andreas
A Park Ranger who has a reasonable belief that a person has been engaged in one of the regulated activities of hunting or fishing may search persons, containers, and proximate vehicles to inspect their catch or haul.
