carsiovascular system Flashcards
what is a stroke
an interruption of blood flow to the brain
what is an ischemic stroke
occurs when a clot ot mass blocks a blood vessel, cutting off blood flow to brain
more common
what is a hemorrhagic stroke
occurs when a weakened blood vessel (aneurysm), ruptures and spills blood into the brain
what is atherosclerosis
a narrowing or hardening of arteries from the build-up of plaque
what is hyertrophic cardiomyopathy
thickened heart muscle
what is atrial fibrillation
an irregular and often very rapid heart rhythm.
what is stage 1 hypertensive blood pressure
130-139 systolic (upper)
80-89 diastolic (lower)
what is stage 2 hypertensive blood pressure
140 or higher systolic
90 or higher diastolic
what is P in an electrocardiogram
atrial depolarization (the electrical activation of the atria before contraction).
what is T in an electrocardiogram
ventricular repolarization (the recovery phase before the next heartbeat)
what is QRS complex in an electrocardiogram
ventricular depolarization (atrial repolarizing) (the electrical activation of the ventricles before contraction)
what is the PR segemnt in an ECG
AV node delay
It represents the time taken for electrical impulse conduction from the atria to the ventricles.
what is the ST segment in an ECG
time during which ventricles are contracting and emptying
what is the TP interval in an ECG
time during which ventricles are relaxing and firing
