300 YDS / 350 YDS
C-17 Equipment Day, Night, IMC / Night PDA (Pilot directed Airdrop) PI
500 YDS / 550 YDS
When can the PI location be adjusted?
For Specific Mission Requirement. All participants must be briefed
How is the PI placed for lateral placement?
Atleast 1/2 the width of the minimum size DZ from the closest side of the DZ. All participants must be briefed
Where is HV-CDS PI positioned?
Center of the DZ for the 1st Item released
What are the three ways the PI can be placed on the DZ?
- Random PI
- Multiple PI
- Offset PI location
When mission requirements dictates, random point of impact may be used? What is option 1?
Mission CDR notifies the DZSTL NLT 24 hrs out and the PI will be randomly put on the DZ ensuring site requirements are within the DZ surveyed boundary
When mission requirements dictate, random point of impact may be used. What is option 2?
Mission or Supported Force CDR requests the PI put at a specific point NLT 24 hrs out. Ensures size requirements are within the DZ surveyed boundary
What is Multiple Point of Impact?
Allows for the calculated dispersal, both laterally and longitudinally of airdropped loads to predetermined locations on a DZ
What is Offset PI locations?
- C-17 Personnel drop in formation may require offset PI’s
- 250 YDS left or right of surveyed PI for a 3 Aircraft formation
- 125 YDS left or right of surveyed PI for a 2 Aircraft formation
What are the two options for Circular DZ?
- Option 1 (Surveyed) PI is at circular DZ center
- Option 2 (Mission Specific) PI is offset from circular DZ center
What are the code letters for all rectangular CARP Drop Zones?
J, C, A, R, S
What are the code letters for all Circular / Random Approach CARP Drop Zones?
H, O
What is the minimum daytime marking on a CARP Drop Zone?
Raised Angle Marker (RAM)
What may be used to supplement the RAM to distinguish between multiple Drop Zones?
Block Letter
How many panels make up a block letter and the size of it?
9 Panels or Lights. a minimum size of 35ft x 35ft
At Night, how many lights will you use to form the CARP block code letter?
9 Omni-directional white lights. a minimum size of 35ft x 35ft
At Night on a CARP Drop Zone, what 2 additional optional lights can you add?
2 white Omni-directional flanker lights placed 250m left and right of PI
The Amber rotating beacon is placed where?
Minimum of 1000m from the PI or trail edge of surveyed DZ (whichever is closer)
At what ceiling requires the control center for all drops to be located off the dropzone?
600ft or less
What is the Control Center?
Where the DZSTL controls and observes the airborne operation
Where is the Control Center located for Personnel / Door Bundles?
Located at the PI
Where is the Control Center located for CDS drops?
Located offset 200 yards to the left or right from the PI
Where is the Control Center located for Heavy Equipment drops?
Located offset 300 yards to the left or right from the PI
Where is the Control Center located for High Velocity, Free Drops, and AWAD?
Located off the drop zone but observed along with the PI.
It is the DZSTL responsibility to fill out this form in its completeness and accuracy
Strike Report AF IMT 4304
How far away can a PI strike be?
25 yards
DZSTL will get clock direction and distance off of 1st parachute suspended item
