A fundamental part of the nursing profession. It characterizes our concern and consideration for the whole person, our commitment to the common good, and our outreach to those who are vulnerable

Describe Leininger’s Modes of actions
- Caregivers perform actions and make choices that help patients retain their cultural values and beliefs
- support the patients by evaluating and changing their approaches to promote improved health outcomes

Esteem= sustaining faith in the other person to get through an event with future at the end
- Believe in/holding esteem
- Maintaining a hope filled attitude

Empathetic Understanding= Understand an event as it has meaning in the life of the other

What is Empirical knowing?
Empirical knowing is based off of facts and education. (also called the “science of nursing”)
What is Aesthetic knowing?
Aesthetic knowing is based off of subjective data. It uses empathy, holistic thinking, compassion, and sensitivity. (Also called the “art of nursing”)
What is personal knowing?
Personal knowing is the nurse being willing to critically reflect on his or her own thoughts, emotions, and actions in a professional context
What is Ethical knowing?
It is more than ethical codes that nurses must abide by. It is all voluntary actions that are deliberate and subject to the judgment of right and wrong.
