Independent states
A state that is free from outside control
Dependencies
A territory that does not possess full political independence as a sovereign state yet remains politically outside the controlling states area

an international association of the united kingdom together with states that were previously part of the British empire
Commonwealth Caribbean
refers to mostly independent English speaking countries in the Caribbean that were formally British colonies

The head of state is above politics and has many duties that are ceremonial

opening Parliament, leading independence day celebrations, are the commander of our armed forces and make appointments of the Prime Minister/The Leader of Opposition, Ministers of the Government, Chief justice and other officials.
