Q

Identify a strength. (procedures)

A

P: Controlled procedures
E: observations were filmed and in a lab environment plus the babies are unaware that they are being filmed
E: increases the inter-rater reliability = it’s more objective ad the observers would miss fewer details.

Good reliability and validity

Q

Explain why a limitation would be that it is hard to know what is going on?

A

E: Difficult to interpret as young babes lack coordination and we could give meaning to an action that could have been accidental.
E: We cannot be certain that their behaviour has meaning

Q

Explain why a limitation would be that they don’t tell us the purpose of synchrony and reciprocity?

A

E: Feldman (2012) pointed out that the theory shows us the patterns but doesn’t tell if it’s essential for a child development

Q

Explain why a limitation would be that it is socially sensitive?

A

E: This could be used to argue that mothers should not work after having a child.
E: Condemns and limits mothers. Low-income mothers need to work and can affect legislation unfairly meaning the research could have negative impacts.
