A

It is the duty and responsibility of all personnel to see that medical attention is rendered to an inmate when it is evident that such attention is needed.

When is it necessary to transfer and inmate to an outside medical facility?

A

Medical Staff of the Tarrant County Jail Unit in which he/she is incarcerated will normally attend to the inmate’s health care needs. However, when an inmate in the custody of the Tarrant County Sheriff’s Department has an illness or injury that cannot be adequately treated by the assigned Medical Staff, the inmate shall be referred to an outside facility.

When is “No-Officers- Hospital Detail” acceptably?

A

Prisoners incarcerated for Class A,B,C misdemeanor offenses and those inmates on the Work Release/Weekender program, provided they have no violent offenses or incidents while incarcerated and pose no escape risk. These prisoners will be checked at least once each watch by the Supervisor assigned to the hospital to monitor the Officers for compliance.
. The exception to this is will be charges that would be perceived by the public as a threat.
Example: Assault Bodily, Evading Arrest, Misdemeanor Escape, etc.

A

The inmate would be informed as to what the consequences will be if they fail to contact TCSO upon completion of their medical treatment, along with instructions as to who to contact for pick-up and transport back to the jail.

A

A supervisor will be posted at the hospital on each shift. Duties shall include, but are not limited to:
Roam and monitor each inmate and officer
Ensure that meal breaks are given and restroom breaks are provided.
Monitor Officers and inmates that are at other area hospitals.
On Shifts that have clinics, the Supervisor assigned will monitor those Officers during their shift at the hospital.

A

The Supervisor shall be provided information and a photo for each inmate assigned to the hospital. The information will include: name, room assignment, date of birth, race, sex, and charge of each inmate.

A

Brief Officer on risk factors- A Hospital or Watch Supervisor shall inform the Hospital Officers of all known risk factors and/or relevant information reference the inmate to which they are assigned.
Continuing Training- Supervisors are responsible for the continued training of Officers assigned to the Hospital Pool and Clinics.
Assignment of Officers- Supervisor are responsible for assigning competent staff to hospital and/or clinic duties that are capable of proficiently responding to emergency situations involving physical confrontations, attempted escape, foot pursuit, etc.
Reports- Supervisors are responsible for forwarding all reports of hospital incidents to the Support Services Captain for review and/or further action.
