Approach the client from the right side

Assess for normal pulsations
Locate visible pulsation at the mitral area (PMI)

Take apical pulse for 1 full minute
Note rhythm, quality, and clarity of sounds
Locate and verbalize APE To Man sites correctly
If the pulse is irregular, take an apical and radial pulse and compare
