Cardiovascular System Flashcards
What’s the sac called that surrounds the heart
pericardium, to prevent friction
What are the 3 layers of the heart
- Epicardium (outer layer)
- Myocardium (strong middle layer which is majority of wall)
- Endocardium (inner layer)
What is Pulmonary Circulation
pulmonary artery, lungs, pulmonary vein
What is Systemic Circulation
Aorta, Body tissues, vena cava
Draw the Structure of the Cardiovascular system
Describe the route of blood through the heart
1) Deoxygenated blood passes from the vena cava to the right atrium.
2) From here it travels through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle.
3) Deoxygenated blood leaves the right side of the heart, passing through the semi-lunar valve into the pulmonary artery to travel to the lungs.
4) Oxygenated blood from the lungs passes through the pulmonary vein into the left atrium.
5) From here it travels through the bicuspid valve into the left ventricle.
6) Oxygenated blood leaves the left side of the heart, passing through the semi-lunar valves into the aorta to travel to the body.
What are coronary arteries
Blood vessels which supply oxygenated blood to the heart muscle
