Cardiovascular Sustem Flashcards
The 5 different blood vessels
Capillaries Veins Arteries Venule Arteriole
Capillaries
Where gaseous exchange takes place through diffusion
Veins
Carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart
Venule
Connects veins to the capillaries
Arteries
Carries oxygenated blood away from the heart
Arterioles
Connects arteries to the capillaries
Thermoregulation
When the body tries to regulate the temperature
Vasoconstriction
Arteries constrict (when cold)
Increase in blood pressure—> increase in body temperature
Vasodilation
During exercises blood vessels dilate
Decreases blood pressure and friction of blood vessels—> decrease in body temperature
2 phases of the cardiac cycle
Systole
Diastole
Systole
Heart contracting
Diastole
Heart relaxing
Nervous system
Controls the rate of which the heart beats
Sympathetic nervous system
Cause the heart rate to increase during exercise
Parasympathetic nervous system
Causes the heart rate to decrease after exercise
