Cardiovascular Physio (electrical Conduction) Flashcards
Cardiovascular electrical conduction pathway
What does ECG Stand for?
What does is measure?
- electrocardiograms
- recorded heart electrical activity shows summed AP by all cells in the heart
Explain what the Einthovens triangle is
-ECG electrodes attached to both arms and the leg for a triangle. Each two- electrode pair constitutes one lead, with one positive and one negative electrode. An ECG is recorded from one lead at a time.
What does the P wave represent on the ECG?
-atrial depolarization
What does the QRS complex represent on the ECG?
- ventricular depolarization
- electrical signal near the purkinje fibers
What does the T wave represent on the ECG?
-ventricular repolarization
What is a wave on a ECG?
-deflection
What is the segment on a ECG?
- baseline between waves
- can be reviewed to see if someone had a heart attack
What is an interval on a ECG?
- Wave+segment
Electrical events of the cardiac cycle
Explain what the diastole time period is during the cardiac cycle?
-time while cardiac muscle releaxes
Explain the what the systole time period during the cardiac cycle
-time while cardiac muscle contracts
The heart cycle between contraction (systole) and relaxation (diastole)
What are the different cardiac rhythms? (4)
- normal sinus rhythm
- tachycardia
- bradycardia
- arrhythmia
What are the characteristics of a normal sinus rhythm?
-normal heart rate and rhythm
Characteristics of tachycardia
> 100 bpm
Characteristics of bradycardia
<60 bpm
Characteristics of a arrhythmia rhythm
-heart beats in an irregular or abnormal rhythm
What occurs during a heart lock (AV block)?
Degrees?
-electrical conduction is disrupted at AV node
What are the different forms of arrhythmia? (5)
- Heartblock (av block)
- premature atrial contraction (PAC)
- Premature ventricular contraction (PVC)
- flutter
- fibrillation
PAC and PVC ECGs
What are the characteristics of a flutter Arrhythmia?
200-300 beats/min
-can be further classified as an atrial flutter and ventricular flutter
What are the characteristics of a Fibrillation arrhythmia?
-rapid, irregular, and unsynchronized contraction
What is a asystole rhythm?
-flatline=dead
