cardiovascular part 1 Flashcards
What is 🩸 Blood Made up of ?
1% Platelets, 1%WBC, 45% RBC, 55% Plasma.
What are Red Blood Cells?
They are Erythrocytes which are biconcave discs. Each RBC is 1/3 hemoglobin.
Bonded and unboned Hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin bonded with oxygen has a bright red color. Unboned hemoglobin has a dark red color and looks blue through the blood vessels.
What is Hemoglobin?
Hemoglobin is a substance that bonds with oxygen to allow RBC to move through the bloodstream.
Red blood Cell production/control?
When a human reaches adulthood RBC are produced through the red bone marrow. The hormone Erythropoietin controls the rate of RBC production. The liver a kidney release this hormone during times of oxygen deficiency.
What are essentials for RBC production?
Vitamin B12, Folic acid, Iron.
WBC are called?
Leukocytes
What do WBC do?
Blood transports WBC to infectious areas of the body were it then leaves the bloodstream and attempts to protect the body from all illness or foreign bodies.
What can WBC be broken down into?
Granulocytes, Agranulocytes.
Granulocytes
Posses granular cytoplasm. A typical Granulocytes is 2 times the size of WBC.It is developed in the red bone marrow. includes the neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils.
Neutrophils
Most common type of WBC. Acts as a first line of defense against any bacteria /microorganism. They capture bad cells and this can cause redness/swelling in those areas. After the battle it helps start tissue repair.
Eosinophils
Cause inflammation during attack on negative cells. Attacks things such as parasites and other illnesses.
Basophils
This is the least common WBC but the biggest WBC their is. helps respond to allergic reaction and attacks foreign bodies and absorbs them and destroys them.
