cardio system Flashcards
What Is blood made up of?
It is a connective tissue that is made up of 45% of red blood cells, 1% of white blood cells and platelets, 55% plasma.
Red Blood cells are called?
Erythrocytes.
What are Red Blood cells?
Red Blood cells are biconcave discs. each RBC is about 1/3 hemoglobin.
What is Hemoglobin?
Is a substance that bind to oxygen and allows RBCs to transport through the bloodstream.
Adult hood RBCs cell production
When a human reaches adulthood, RBCs are produced by red bone marrow.
what controls RBCs cell?
The hormone Erythropoietin controls the rate of RBCs produced
what are essentials for RBCs production.
Vitamin B12, Folic Acid and iron are all essentials for the production of RBCs.
White Blood Cells
White blood cells fight against disease. The blood transports WBC to the areas infected and where they will leave the blood stream and protect from illnesses and disease.
What are white blood cells called?
Leukocytes
What are WBC broken down in to?
Granulocytes, Agranulocytes
Granulocytes
Posses granular, cytoplasm. Develops in the red bone marrow similar to the RBC
Neutrophils
Most common type of WBC. Acts as the first line of defense against any type of bacteria/ microorganisms. They capture and destroy blood cells . Then they start tissue repair.
Eosinophils
Cause inflammation during their attack on negative cells. Attack things such as parasites and some infections.
Basophils
WBC that is the fewest amount in the body, but the biggest WBC in the body.Helps respond to allergic reactions.
Agranulocytes
Lack dots in the cytoplasm made up of monocytes and lymphocytes.
