Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors and Angiotensin I & II Receptor Blockers (ARB) Eg;

ACE ARB

Captopril ( Capoten). Losartan (cozaar )
Enapril ( Vasotec). Valsartan (Diovan)
Fosinopril (Monopril). Irbesartan (Avapro)
Enalaprilat (Vasotec IV)
Lisinopril (prinivil)

Therapeutic use; hypertension, heart failure, MI and Diabetic Nephropathy .

Precautions / Interactions
Use with caution if Diabetic therapy is in place
Monitor potassium level

SIDE / ADVERSE EFFECTS
Persistent non productive cough with ACE Inhibitors
Angioedema ; hypotension
Should not be used in second and third trimester of pregnancy.

NURSING INTERVENTION & CLIENT EDUCATION
Captopril should be taken 1 hour before meal
Monitor blood pressure
Monitor for Angioedema and promptly administer epinephrine 0.5 ml or 1: 1000 solution subcutaneously
