Cardiovascular Drugs Flashcards
This is a type of system in the body that is composed of the heart and blood vessels.
Circulatory System
It is controlled by the ANS.
Heart rate
It is the amount of tension applied to a muscle before contraction.
Preload
It is a load against which a muscle exerts its forces
Afterload
It is defined as persistent systolic pressure of greater that 140mmHg and/or a diastolic pressure is greater than 90mmHg
Hypertension
It is determined by the product of cardiac output and systemic vascular resistance
Blood pressure
This drugs accelerate the rate of urine formation that results to the removal of sodium and water from the body.
Diuretics
This acts on the brain by decreasing NE production.
Central Acting
It is used for prevention of migraine headaches and severe dysmenorrhea , mgt of opoid, nicotine and alcohol withdrawal
Clonidine
intense but subsides within 15 mins of rest or medication and caused mainly by atherosclerosis and can be triggered by exertion or stress (cold, emotions) and exacerbated by smoking, alcohol, coffee and some drugs.
Chronic Stable Angina
early stage of progressive artery disease characterized by pain increasing in severity and frequency and may even occur at rest
Unstable Angina
from spasms of the smooth muscle that surrounds the coronary arteries and occurs at rest without any triggers but usually occurring at the same time of day
Vasospatic Angina
rapid acting sublingual tablets or IV drip
Acute attacks
the amount of blood ejected with each contraction (65% of total ventricle volume)
ejection fraction
it is the total amount of blood in the ventricle before contraction
LV End-diastic volume
