CARDIOVASCULAR DRUGS Flashcards
What are the 2 primary functions of circulatory system?
First, delivery of nutrients, hormones, electrolytes, and other vital components to cells, including oxygen and second is the elimination of metabolic wastes and carbon dioxide from cells. The system also aids in the battle against infection.
What are the composed of circulatory system?
Heart and Blood vessels
What are the 4 determinants of Cardiac Output?
Heart Rate, Stroke Volume, Preload and Afterload
What is Diuretics?
Medications that hasten the production of urine, which causes the body to excrete sodium and water, are used to treat various conditions.
What are the medication for Diuretics: Loop?
Bumetanide, Furosemide and Torsemide
What are the 2 types of acting in Adrenergic Drugs and their definition?
- Central Acting – reduces NE generation in the brain when acting
- Peripheral Acting – at the heart and blood vessels
Where did Clonidine use?
It used to treat opiate withdrawal, severe dysmenorrhea, migraine prophylaxis, and nicotine and alcohol withdrawal.
What is the first dose syncope in Adrenergic drugs?
Severe hypotension resulting to loss of consciousness.
What is Minoxidil?
Effectiveness in restoring hair growth.
How many types of Angina?
3 TYPES
1. Chronic Stable Angina
2. Unstable Angina
3. Vasospastic Angina.
What is the drugs needed for Anti – Anginal?
Nitrates and Nitrites, Beta Blockers, and Calcium Channel Blockers.
What is the difference between Acute Attacks and Prevention?
Acute Attacks is rapid acting sublingual tablets or IV drip and Prevention is long acting forms.
What is the meaning of Heart Failure?
Inability of the heart to pump enough blood from the ventricles to meet metabolic demands is a pathologic condition.
What is Cardiac Glycosides and its drug?
It is the Oldest class of cardiac medications, derived from the digitalis or foxglove plant. The drug is Digoxin.
What is the Cardiac Glycosides: Toxicity?
Low K or Mg and declining renal function may increase potential for toxicity.
